Quinacrine

Yellow pellets made of the active agent quinacrine. They were inserted through the cervix and into the womb with the aid of a thin plastic tube or another inserter device. They then dissolved to close off the ends of the Fallopian tubes. This is done in the first half of the menstrual cycle and repeated one month later. The desired effect is produced approximately six weeks later.

Quinacrine is a trusted and extremely inexpensive drug, and its application for the purpose of sterilisation is quite simple.

This method was developed in 1980 by J. Zipper et al. as a simple and effective sterilisation method for use in poor countries where financing healthcare is difficult if not impossible.
